Tree Removal at 2nd/Hope Station

SUMMARY

In preparation for excavation activities at the future 2nd/Hope Station, Regional Connector Constructors (RCC) will be removing total of 46 trees in the area bound by 3rd St., General Thaddeus Kosciusko(GTK) Way, Hope St. and Flower St.

Work is anticipated to start Monday, November 2, 2015 for approximately one week. Anticipated work hours are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This activity will require the following intermittent closures:

  • Northbound directional closure on Hope St. between 1st and 2nd St.
  • Full closure of GTK Way and northbound Flower St. between the 3rd/Flower and 2nd Place/Hope intersections.
  • Lane reductions on westbound 2nd between Grand Ave. and Hope St.

ESSENTIALS

Sidewalks along GTK Way and Hope St may be intermittently restricted during work hours.

Pedestrian access will be maintained outside of the work area.

The Board of Public Works approved the tree removal permit on August 19, 2015.  City of Los Angeles tree removal permits require a minimum 2 to 1 tree replacement ratio.  Trees will be planted at the end of construction near the area of removal, based on City requirements.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Northbound Hope St. traffic will be detoured right on 2nd St., left on Grand Ave., left on 1st St., back to Hope St.

Right turns at the 2nd Place/Hope intersection will intermittently be restricted during this activity.

Access to businesses and driveways will be maintained at all times.

The work is being coordinated with other construction activities in the area to minimize impacts to the community.


Emergency access will be maintained.

Construction may result in changes to bus routes or stop locations.  Metro will post signs at affected stops to advise of alternate boarding locations.  Real-time information available at metro.net/service/advisories or 323.GOMETRO.
